On a walk through a public park in Fort Erie, Ontario, I saw this squirrel contentedly eating. With his (from our angle, definitely a boy) back to the tree to avoid surprises, he had no concerns and watched the world and the humans in it go by with apparent fascination. Keeping a wary eye open for any choice human food that was dropped or discarded, he was in no rush move.
And neither were we. We left after around ten minutes. Our last sight was of him scampering back down the tree after going up to get more food. He resumed his watch from the base and kept eating. In hindsight, I think he was playing us, busking for food. I don’t think he had a permit.
