I am a working photographer, videographer, and drone pilot. I’ve been serving the Niagara region for 2 decades.
This is the blog section. It’s not about work, you can read that on the other pages and see some portfolios if you want to. This page is about the fun things in my life. Photography. Nature. Technology. And whatever else I feel like writing about. It’s about life, the universe, and everything. From Carl, your friendly neighbourhood Camera Guy.
IOTW: Welland Canal

The Welland Canal connects Lakes Erie and Ontario and is a much safer transportation route for shipping than the nearby Niagara Falls, a few kilometres to the East. Our Image Of The Week is of ships wintering at the entrance to the Welland Canal in Port Colborne. The canal freezes during the winter months, making…
Kakabeka Falls

A short drive from the centre of Thunder Bay, the Kaministiquia River flows through the Kakabeka Provincial Park. In the coincidentally named village of Kakabeka Falls, the river flows over the Kakabeka Falls. Kakabeka Falls is the second highest waterfall in Ontario. The water plunges dramatically 40 metres before sorting itself out and flowing again…
Optimist Club Wins Grant

At the Port Colborne City council meeting last night, I and several other members of the Port Colborne Optimist Club were present to see Port Colborne Mayor, Bill Steele present a cheque for $4000 to club president Kim Eros. Which was kinda cool. Funds are for use in our many community projects, which can be…
Sugarloaf Marina

In winter, the boat slips at Sugarloaf Marina stand empty. Winter ice makes the marina uninhabitable for boats, which are lifted out and winterized until the return of warmer weather. When Spring begins, the ice clears. It leaves behind crystal clear ice-filtered water. Those brave enough to venture out can see right to the bottom…
The ManhatTron Project

On a hot afternoon in July I found myself in New York with a couple of hours to kill between photoshoots. So I went up all 102 floors of the Empire State Building and enjoyed the view. It is rather spectacular. Even when repeatedly bumping shoulders on the observation deck with everyone else. It was…
Frosty

This view of the frosty sunrise was taken #somewhereinniagara and though it was a cold start to the day it heralded Spring. Throughout the drive I noticed buds appearing on trees. Animals were more vociferous, more numerous, and more visible as they sensed the turning of the world and began their courtship dances. The frosty…
Contemplation
A Snowy Owl thinking really deep thoughts. There is not much else to do, in a field. This item shows several images of a Snowy Owl coming in to land on a post, above the main image of the same Owl after dropping to sit on a rock and scan for a tasty breakfast treat.…
Eagle Landing
You really do not have a solid understanding of the wingspan of a Golden Eagle until you see one landing less than six feet away from you. Beautiful. Inspirational. Terrifying. And beautiful again, all in the space of a heartbeat. Watching an Eagle landing is an experience.
Cute Bunny
Today is grey and miserable. Which makes it an ideal ‘Cute bunny playing hide and seek’ day. Taken last year during a visit to Happy Rolph’s animal farm in St. Catharines. A most enjoyable memory of time spent with my love.
