Autumn Reigns

We are close to the time of year where leaves change colour. Orange. Red. Yellow. Brown. And then, they fall. Which is why this season, Autumn, is imaginatively known here in Canada as Fall. The leafy Fall carpet of leaves softens sounds. You can hear the difference as you walk through the seasons. Same hikes. Different ambience. Those fallen leaves provide home and sanctuary to some critters, as well as nourishing the next year of life. From ants to oaks. Circle of life stuff. Natures compost does not come from a garden centre.

We’re really looking forward to Autumn. Because, you know. Autumn Reigns. That’s a play on words, in case you are one of those driven to point out such things: It’s deliberate.

Autumn is my favourite season. Summer heat and sunburn is replaced by more bearable warmth. Bitter Winter cold lies ahead, but thankfully not just yet. Spring is always a great relief after a harsh Canadian winter (insert name of your country here, it’s a big old world but the principle is the same for all of us). But everything is very green. Very boring. I like the varicoloured hues of Autumn. They speaks to me of life and death and rebirth. Of cycles. Circles of life. End of season back yard barbecues, and Halloween, and hiking without biting insects. Pumpkin rum. Hot apple cider of the non-alcohol variety (If you have not yet tried this, add it to your to-do list). This is why I believe Autumn reigns supreme over the seasons. Do you agree? Or do you have a different preference? Leave a comment. But not before you have enjoyed the photo, as well as the mercifully short video it came from. Subscribe. Why not?
