AI can do some things very well. Some things it is terrible at. For example, feeling particularly lazy I thought I would test how the various AI models fared at taking out that fence. Every single model made a complete mess of it. So I smiled, and went old school.
There are times when nothing is better than old school photo editing techniques that take years to master, but minutes to do. You have far more control over the output. No random people or body parts popping up. Everything is in the right place. The colour scheme has not changed. Only the changes you want have been made. Which in a commercial setting is vital. You do not want to spend a morning generating images you can’t use. Try explaining that away. No, technical skills might take longer but are often faster in the end. Remember the fable of the Tortoise and the Hare.
And those techniques are also a lot more fun, more satisfying than either pressing a button or typing ‘remove the fence’. For all the advantages and benefits of AI, and there are many, where is the artistry in that? A classic education in Photoshop wins this particular challenge hands down.
