You can gauge the age of a Heron by the colour of it’s crest. When it’s this blue, it’s a youngster.
The algae-covered pond surrounded by reeds attracted this beautiful immature Great Blue Heron. Other birds were around, mainly geese and ducks, but this one held my gaze. I watched in silence for several minutes as the bird simply stood there. We both soaked up the peace for a while before quietly going our separate ways.
