Heart-Shaped Sunrise

After an hour of stumbling across damp and dark terrain in search of a great location to take photos of another Niagara sunrise, I discovered the perfect place just as dawn was about to break. Miles from anywhere, in the middle of nowhere, I waited quietly in the pre-dawn twilight.

The sun came up right in the centre of that heart shape formed by the surrounding branches. Low mist added atmosphere as dawn light flowed across the land. Twilight silence gave way to a raucous dawn chorus as the world awoke. Sunrise is always an amazing moment. Ephemeral. Gone in a heartbeat. Worth the effort.
