Canal Days 2025

This weekend sees the phenomenon known locally as Canal Days.

It’s a 4-day celebration of the history of navigation through the Welland Canal, though Canal Days has become more associated in recent years with concerts, food trucks, vendors, and fireworks.

This view from above the canal was taken just after 5:30am, well before the crowds began to arrive. It is peaceful. The image shows the Empire Sandy, the Edward M. Cotter fire boat, the Clarence Street Bridge, and the cruise ship Pearl Mist. Unseen because they had not yet arrived, the Viking ships Octantis and Polaris are scheduled to arrive this weekend.

All this marine traffic really helps take the festival back to it’s roots. Port Colborne stands at the Southern entrance to the Welland Canal. And that’s why Port Colborne is known by some as the Gateway To Navigation. From here you can reach the whole world.
