Metadata Watermarks

From time to time I get asked about the camera settings used to make certain images. I’m not a huge fan of this, because my settings were chosen to meet the weather and light conditions of the day, as well as the subject of the image. As such, they might not work for you on a different day facing another direction. At worst, they could lead you to make bad choices. But there are times when that info is useful, of course. Depth of field and aperture settings, for one of many examples.

So I made a watermark template to simplify adding that metadata info into image exports. The system reads from the photo and puts the data in for me. No typing or looking up metadata numbers. Ever. I like to work smart, so I did the up front work and will never need to do it again.

This will help with making video, too. Images will drop into the video with their metadata already present. Very useful, very timesaving. I think I may make some more for different use cases.

The method I used works for my workflow, it may not work for yours. Some editing software will not allow such things. If they do, a plugin or extra software may be required. I am not about to get drawn into that potential mess, so I will end by simply saying this is a great idea if you can do it. Finding out if and how, using your software and setup? That’s up to you. Have fun finding out. I did. 🙂
