The unassuming International Railway Bridge crosses the Niagara river between Fort Erie, Ontario, and Buffalo, New York. Freight between the two countries travels on trains up to a mile-long.
Originally constructed in 1873, the bridge has two connected spans. In the middle of the river stands Unity Island (formerly known as Squaw Island). The two bridge sections meet on the island, and this geography was a practical consideration when planning the construction of the bridge.
A word of caution. The pedestrian walkway was removed in 1900. At least one person has died trying to cross. Others have fallen into the fast moving Niagara river to avoid trains. Others have been arrested, with entirely foreseeable consequences. TLDR: Don't do it. Though from this angle it seems physically possible to walk between the two countries, I would not advise making the attempt.
