Lincoln Museum and Cultural Arts Centre

Fry House, Jordan, Ontario

In the quiet village of Jordan, Ontario, the modern Lincoln Museum and Cultural Arts Centre museum building hosts a wealth of area history. The land behind that steel and glass edifice holds several heritage buildings, all awaiting tour guides and visitors. Tours are free. Donations are encouraged but not obligatory. You should check it out.

The old schoolroom is painstakingly preserved in every detail. From the school desks to the working piano, the decorations, and all the accoutrements of a period school. Even the bell in the tower works. The sign beside the pull rope at the school entrance says ‘”Please do not ring the bell”. Tempting… but don’t.

The homestead across from the school is the Fry House. It was home to several generations of a family that achieved much in the local community in various ways. Their stories are many and not mine to tell, and I couldn’t do them justice if I tried. Too much history to impart. Head on over here, take the tour.

Drone Time

After the tour I took my drone up to take a look around the buildings and get some images, seen below, which I have shared with the museum to use on their socials. I got many more inside the buildings, as well as video from the drone flight. All in all it was a most enjoyable outing, and I intend to return in warmer weather for another tour.

Behind the museum and the buildings lies a sharp drop, to Twenty Creek that runs along the valley below. Behind the open barn in the first image, steps lead down to a hiking trail for those with 45 minutes each way to spare. Of course, that’s if you do a straight hike there and back. I would like to revisit in warmer weather with a camera and take a few hours to explore with Nikki. I might take the drone.
