The Whirlpool Aero Car is a cable car ride located a few kilometres North of Niagara Fallls. This popular experience lies at a bend in the river where the steep canyon walls widen and the raging class 6 waters fold and spin and tumble to make the sharp turn. The ride never leaves Canadian soil (or airspace) as it goes back and forth over the infamous Whirlpool. No passport required.
The whirlpool is an amazing sight, particularly when seen from above. Seasonal, it does not run through the Winter, so check the web site for opening times. Or hike the Glen to see it from ground level as I did to get this shot. The bottom of the Niagara Gorge is itself very popular, both with hikers and anglers. There are many trails to explore, of varying difficulty. All have amazing views. Injuries often require an Air Ambulance as the gorge walls are inaccessible to first responders with gear. It’s a safe place. But caution is advised unless you like airlifts and helicopter rides for twisted ankles.
One more note of caution here: Do not swim. Do not swim. OK, that’s two notes, but this one is worth saying twice.
