Snowy Owl

Snowy Owl on a rock

Sitting on a rock, in a field, somewhere in Canada, this snowy owl scans the undergrowth for prey.

Famous for their stealth and speed through the air, snowy owls are voriacious and will eat almost anything that moves. And with their almost 360 degree range of motion combined with amazing eyesight that can see a moving mouse from a hundred feet away, their speed and talons make short work of pretty much anything that catches their eyes. If they can lift it, they can and will eat it. From rodents to rattlesnakes, snowy owls are one of the most successful predators to stalk the skies. And, as we see here, their ground game is pretty good too.

Snowy owls are one of my favourite birds of prey. But do not let their cuteness deceive you. Humans are too big to be considered as lunch, but if they thought they could, they would eat you. And you do not want to enter a fight with a snowy owl or any other species of raptor. Nobody walks away from that fight unscarred.
