On a day off, instead of relaxing in bed I was up and out the door before sunrise. Just for a change. The forecast had called for a break in the weather. A cold front was coming in after a long dry hot spell. I predicted fog as the temperature changed. And I was not disappointed.
On one of my regular scouting excurstions I had previously thought that a location just outside Port Colborne would be ideal for foggy conditions at sunrise. This was speculation, because to actually see the spot and compose a photo would require me to be about 150 feet in the air above a lake. My pre-visualization skills are well trained from years of landscape and event photography, so I filed away the idea to come back at a better time. This. This was the time.
I had a specific idea of how things should look, given the location, altitude, ground cover, and angle of the rising sun. Arriving just ahead of sunrise I did a quick site survey before sending the drone up to the spot I had (literally) in mind. And spent the next ten minutes taking photo and video of that beautiful, fog-shrouded lake. The 2-minute video shows only one photo, but if you watch to the end it links to the video I shot. And that truly is spectacular. It really made for a wonderful start to the day. I was back in the car with a media card full of goodness to review and play with later.
Sunrise, again, did not disappoint.
