Bike Rides

Jeff on his motorbike

Today I was invited to meet a group of motorbike riders on a Poker Run and take photos. A charitable event, I often tag along for such things. This is not an uncommon invitation. Due to other (paid) commitments, I couldn’t, however I was able to swing by long enough to drop off a print of this image for one of the riders. It is one of many from a previous event, and it was received very well!

Any image can be screenshotted and printed at home, but that will only print at whatever your screen resolution is, usually somewhere between 72 and 96 pixels per inch on a standard monitor. Print resolution varies based on print size, and that is another story, but it’s fair to say that even with the best software a screenshot won’t ever scale up to a good quality print. Low res in, low res out.

If you want a good quality print, get it from the photographer. Because original files can be printed at as high a resolution as is required. I can print photos several feet wide. I routinely print at 300 DPI, 600 for detail product work. You can count freckles at that resolution. I can print billboards. Which you really can’t, if you grab your source file from a web site. Something to think about. 🙂
