June 1st is Fathers Day. Here in Port Colborne we celebrate with an annual fishing derby for kids of 3 to 13. Free to enter, catch and release, with a free BBQ lunch to entrants and everyone goes home with a prize courtesy of our many generous sponsors.
The event is now run by the Port Colborne Optimist Club, for which I serve as director, and secretary. As part of that first role I take all the photos during our events, and this was no exception. I wander the lake front chatting to kids and parents, enjoying them enjoying their time in the park. It’s a lovely, hard, rewarding day that doesn’t end until the final truck has been unloaded back at our lock-up. It’s a day that starts at 5:00am and ends whenever it ends. It’s all worth it when you see smiling faces everywhere. We did that. Us.
I cherry-picked a handful of images from the day that I liked. There are more. Images of a park full of people, enjoying themselves. This is why we do it. The full gallery is here. Browse and enjoy.
