It isn’t all ‘Somewhere In Niagara’ and pretty landscapes. I use my camera primarily for work. I shoot commercial photography & video for businesses and clients. Also, corporate events and private bookings. For example, indoor and real estate. Commercial photography & video (alongside graphic design) are my bread and butter. I’m a working photographer, experienced in many disciplines. It could be a wedding or a corporate black tie event. It could be head shots, a product catalogue, a model shoot, or as here, a hotel room. But not just one.
I am commisioned to produce a promo video for a well-known restaurant and hotel here in Port Colborne, the Canalside. The finished project will include these and simliar photos from me, covering every room across multiple locations, assembled into a video sequence centred around the Welland Canal. The video will prominently feature drone footage. I have mentioned elsewhere that I have an Advanced RPAS certification and can send a drone out through a window and along the canal quite happily, safely, and legally. Full service and coverage, indeed.
I have a storyboard. Once all the video footage and room photos are collected, assembly can begin. This ongoing project is driven by room occupancy and availability across multiple locations. That wrinkle imposes some practical considerations beyond those encountered during a regular photo shoot. These rooms are popular and rarely unoccupied. It has taken a season to pull this together, time of year and sun angles have changed between shoots. Lighting and colour grading content seamlessly will be a challenge. A fun one that will be taken in stride. All part of the edit. This is not my first rodeo.
This project nears completion, but is expected to take several more weeks to complete. Not an issue. Client says quality matters most here, a sentiment I fully embrace. The package will include a number of photos for advertising and marketing materials, as well as video for use on the retaurant web site, social media channels, and Youtube. Broadcast quality, naturally.
I’m looking forward to seeing how closely our finished video resembles my original stoyboard. Blanks still need to be filled. This colouring book is printed. Now to colour between the lines. I love doing what I do.
