Cold Start

Tomorrow, a cold front is expected to roll across Ontario that will see between 10 and 20 cm of snow fall. Worst case, 30cm (12 inches) are expected to be dumped on us. And with drifting caused by heavy winds it may be several feet in places. This is not a deal breaker here. We are used to that kind of thing and take it in stride. It’s also why we have snow fences.

We stock up, hunker down, and wait it out. Some of the hardier souls (ahem) might venture out, with or without vehicles. I’m already planning for it.

What is not so common are the temperatures that will come along with the snow tomorrow. Today was minus 24 degrees Celcius. Forecast is predicting up to -50 degrees tomorrow. And when there is wind, which as mentioned is expected, the ‘wind chill factor’ drops temperatures significantly further for anyone in the path of the wind. All of which is why I went for a walk today.

Although it was very cold there was no snow, no cloud, and zero wind. So, no wind chill. Made the ears tingle, but not so cold I felt the need to zip my coat up. They breed us hardy in Yorkshire.
